Emergency Preparedness Committee Meeting:  July 2nd, 2020 at the Cornucopia Community Center
Members present:  Yvette Fleming, Roger Lindgren, Harry Kellogg and Owen Polifka
The Survey
We discussed the survey for the most part of this meeting.  Kurt has formulated a breakdown of the survey response percentages.  We talked about ways to provide a summary or an overview of the survey results suitable for presenting to our residents.  Owen has agreed to work with Kurt in formulating this summary.  Some of the methods that we discussed to disseminate this summary include:
Utilizing the “NextDoor” site, The Town of Bell website, Utilize current email lists, Submitting a summary article to run in the “Connection” and leaving copies of the summary for the public at the Community Center.
Emergency Preparedness Resource Person (EPRP)
A copy of the survey in its entirety could be provided to the EPRPs providing them with additional information regarding their residents.  That way, for example, the EPRPs would be advised of any resident’s special needs that would be prudent to know about.  In those cases, the FEMA booklet entitled, Preparing for Disaster for People with Disabilities and Other Special Needs could be provided to such residents.  In addition, the EPRPs would  provide the following items to their residents:  Flipcharts which are in the process of being formulated and refrigerator magnets that provide essential information (including spaces for resident’s phone number and address) that would help a responder in an emergency.  Also to be included: Yvette and Harry will develop a color coded map of the Bell Township illustrating the various regions along with their respective EPRP and how to best evacuate that area in the event of a flood, forest fire or any other disaster type event.  And, information on suggestions for various items to be included in an emergency to-go bag.  Much of this information is also available in our committee’s job description of the EPRP.
New Business
Roger indicated that the Town of Bell Emergency Action Plan that our committee has developed has been submitted to the town board.
He also announced that a Covid-19 testing site will be available in Iron River at their community center located at 8275 E. Mill Street.  It will be open from 11:00am until 7:00 pm on Friday, July 10th, 2020, and the Army National Guard will be assisting in this event.
Next meeting:  Tuesday, August 4th, at 6:30 pm at the Community Center
Respectfully submitted,
Owen
