Town of Bell Plan Commission Meeting
August 8, 2024
Town of Bell Community Center
Meeting called to order at 5:02 PM.
In attendance: Jackie Eid, Nancy Moye, Jody Hipsher, John Anderson. Absent: Ken Roman. Guest: Amy Ogren.
1. Review/Approve Prior Meeting Minutes: Anderson makes motion to approve June minutes, seconded by Moye. Approved unanimously. Moye makes motion to approve July minutes, seconded by Eid. Approved unanimously.
2. Updates/Correspondence: No new business to report.
3. Superior Avenue Speed Bumps: Jayne Norton inquired with Eid about the status of an ordinance regarding the installation and maintenance of speed bumps on Superior Avenue. No such ordinance presently exists. The Town Board will be considering this on a future agenda.
4. Review of Comprehensive Plan: Commission members who are behind in reviewing sections of the Plan should try to catch up over the next month – we have scheduled reviews in prior months through Section 8 (of 10, plus appendices). Please try to provide your review-notes to Roman at least one week before the next Commission meeting so he can integrate them into his master revisions-document.
5. Business Idea for Town of Bell: Amy Ogren presented an idea to establish a public mobile sauna business in the Town. It would be a wood-burning configuration and possibly parked down by the beach for easy access to post-sauna cold-plunges. There does not seem to be any applicable Town regulations on this issue save for the potential necessity of a transient vendor permit, so the Commission recommended Ogren check in with Town Clerk MaryBeth Tillmans about that permit-application process, and also with the Bayfield County Department of Health and the Cornucopia Business Association for any other potential applicable regulations and business-to-business networking opportunities.
