A strong spring storm will move across the upper Midwest this weekend, bringing heavy rain and snow, strong winds, and potentially lake shore flooding.  Please see Situation Report (PDF) for more information.

Expected Hazards

  • 3 to 6 inches of heavy wet snow from Bayfield and Douglas counties, through the Twin Ports and along the North Shore. Between one and two inches of slushy snow accumulations are forecast elsewhere. Precipitation will begin as rain late Friday night into Saturday morning, changing to snow for most locations Saturday night, and back to rain on Sunday.
  • Strong northeast winds Saturday and into Sunday morning, which may cause lakeshore flooding. Gale force winds are expected on Lake Superior.
  • Rainfall may cause localized flooding and lead to rises on area rivers and streams.

Timing

  • Start: Precipitation will move in late Friday night and Saturday morning
  • Worst: Saturday and Saturday night
  • Most intense snowfall: Saturday night
  • End:Sunday

Uncertainty

  • Uncertainty in forecast snowfall accumulations remains based on how quickly rain may change over to snow.
